How Much Water You Drink ?

By Morgan Bailey

Water is essential, especially if you are trying to lose weight. Here are some easy ways to meet your daily requirement.

Water Is Essential
Water is one of the most important elements of the human body. It makes up approximately 70 percent of our muscles, and about 75 percent of our brains. It is also an essential part of a healthy diet and plays a vital role in the proper functioning of the body.

Some of water's many benefits:
* Helps maintain adequate blood volume
* Helps regulate body temperature, especially in warm weather
* Helps prevent constipation
* Helps medications to work
* Acts as a lubricant for the body, moistening eyes, mouth, nose, and skin
* Acts as an appetite suppressant
* Is calorie-free
* Helps prevent urinary tract infections
* Transports essential nutrients throughout the body and rids the body of waste
* Boosts metabolism when drunk cold (we burn 2 calories per glass as we warm it up to body temperature)

A Dieter's Dream
Drinking water also forces fat to be used as fuel. How does this work? Without water, the kidneys are unable to function properly, so the liver picks up the slack. But the liver cannot properly metabolize stored fat as energy.

The result is a decrease in fat metabolism, leading to more fat stored in the body. So, drinking lots of water helps avoid extra fat deposits.

How Much Do You Need?
The standard advice from nutritionists is to get at least 64 ounces of water daily. This is called the 8 x 8 rule (eight 8-ounce glasses). If you are trying to lose weight, it is especially important to stay hydrated. A good rule of thumb, experts say, is to drink half your daily water consumption between the time you wake up and lunch, and the other half between lunch and bedtime.

If you are exercising, you might want to drink a bit more. Drink 8-10 ounces approximately 30 minutes before exercising. You should also drink some water while exercising; about 3-4 ounces every 15 minutes.

Finally, when you're through exercising, drink another 8-10 ounces to make up for the water you lose through prespiration.

Healthy adults of all ages need at least 8 cups of water every day. Children should have 6-8 servings, but the serving size depends upon the child's age. For children age 2 and under, a serving is half a cup; for kids age 3-5, it's 3/4 cup. For kids 6 and up, a serving is one cup.

Skin Damage Control for Upper Arms

Telltale signs: The skin can become freckled and loose. (The triceps area is a fat depot in women.) The elbows may become rough.

At-Home Solutions
Smooth it out: To ease roughness, try a product containing alpha- and beta-hydroxy acids, such as Neutrogena Skin Smoothing Body Lotion.

Conquer darker spots: Combine a glycolic acid lotion with a hydroquinone fade cream (such as Glyquin Cream; about $75/tube). You should notice results in six weeks.

Muscle up: Combining arm-firming moves (triceps dips, triceps pushups) along with regular cardio can really trim and tone this area.

A dermatologist can... Cream away browning: Tazorac Cream (about $100/tube), a strong prescription retinoid, lightens spots usually in about six weeks.

Laser stubborn spots: The Sinon or the diode laser can remove even the darkest, largest spots, often in a single treatment ($500-$1,000).

Fiber and Constipation

A diet with 40 grams of fiber provides protection and prevention against diseases such as kidney stones, varicose veins, obesity, heart disease, appendicitis, colon disease, diabetes, appendicitis, diverticulitis, and constipation.

When you eat fiber, it passes into your colon without getting digested in the small intestine. The good bacteria will use some of it as food, which makes them stronger, able to multiply, and keep bad bacteria in check.

Eating fiber reduces your fecal matter transit time from 3 days to 1 1/ 2 - 2days.

All processed foods, such as white flour products, have little or no fiber. Fiber is removed when various natural flours or grains are processed to make junk food. During this processing, nutrients, vitamins, and minerals are also removed. Only plant foods and lightly processed grains have fiber of varying amounts.

Foods that are "fortified" with vitamins and minerals are unbalance and unhealthy since manufacturers cannot replace all the nutrients the food once had.

Fiber, bulk, or roughage, is one of the main nutrients you need to eat daily to relieve and prevent constipation and prevent many other diseases. Most fiber is fermented in your colon and provides some energy for the body. Fiber has two forms - soluble and insoluble.

Soluble Fiber

Soluble Fiber become gummy and viscous after it dissolves in water.

Soluble fiber has the ability to slow down digestion in the small intestine and prevent simple sugars from entering the bloodstream right away.

Because it absorbs water, soluble fiber softens and gives weight to fecal matter, and this makes fecal matter easier to pass through your colon.

Soluble fiber consists of pectin, gum, and mucilage. Pectin is found in carrots, apples, beets, cabbage, citrus fruits, and bananas. Gums and mucilage are found in oat bran, sesame seeds, oats, oatmeal, legumes, guar gum, and gum arabic

Besides helping prevent constipation, soluble fiber provides the following benefits.

· reduces the risk of heart disease
· reduces the risk of gallstones
· helps to remove toxic heavy metals and toxins from your colon
· helps to prevent the toxic condition call appendicitis
· regulates movement of sugar into the bloodstream
· helps to prevent hemorrhoids and fissures
· lowers cholesterol
· lowers absorption of fats in the intestines
· and most importantly, help prevent the overgrowth of bad bacteria in your colon.

Insoluble Fiber

Insoluble fiber does not dissolve in water and consists of cellulose, hemi cellulose, and lignin. This type of fiber is extremely beneficial to your health. Because your body's enzymes cannot break down this fiber, like it does food, it remains in tack as it travels through your intestines and colon.

Insoluble fiber helps fecal matter travel faster through the small intestine and your colon and thereby prevents constipation.

It provides bulk to your fecal matter. It makes your stools larger, softer, and stimulates peristaltic movement as it touches your colon walls.

Insoluble fiber, like soluble fiber, slows down digestion. It also slows down absorption of protein, starch and fat and has the ability to inhibit the action of digestive enzymes.

Insoluble fibers are found in vegetables, wheat, and wheat bran. This type of fiber is considered an anti-carcinogen and a digestive aid. It is credited with preventing colon cancer and many other colon diseases.

You body needs soluble and insoluble fiber to help relieve and prevent constipation. It also helps to prevent many other diseases. Start adding more fiber to your diet and gain the benefits of better health.

Read Update New Anti-Wrinkle Treatment

By: Mary Desaulniers
We are bombarded on all fronts with new anti-wrinkle treatments and new sophisticated skin regimen that are supposed to take years off the face—microdermabrasion, botox injections, face lifts and laser resurfacing. More than ever, we are harnessing the powers of technology to create a Brave New World of ageless boomers. And while I have no objections to wanting to look young (who doesn’t), I do think that being young is more a state of mind than a state of “looks.” Looks can be artificially manipulated; a state of mind can only be cultivated.

Even the word “cultivation” tells us that the process of staying young takes time. And time is something our society seems intent on making dispensable. Yet the best things in life take time. Think of your children through the lenses of the family album; it is the changes tabulated in those pictures that make them so rich in character and experience now. Time deepens the experience; time ages the moment by filling it with layers made accessible through memories. Without time, we are like ants—filled only with a pale and surface instant. Living the moment is a call for cultivating the layers of time within the moment.

And so with the face; the layers of time that wrinkle a face are tributes to its resilience. It has weathered the helter-skelter twenties and it has survived the frantic pace of the thirties (when most of us had full time jobs and children). The marks of having lived a life rich in love, struggles, failures and successes are written all over our faces and it is these we need to embrace because they are not signs that we need anti-wrinkle treatments, but signs that we have struggled, we have loved and we have lived. They are the marks of a life that is extraordinary in its ordinariness.

These marks on our faces are not the things we need to fear; they are not the signs of age. The signs of age that we need fear are those that speak of a life unlived—a terrified urgency to keep everything as is, a fear of learning new ways of thinking, new ways of doing things, a fear of going beyond right and wrong, or more specifically, a fear of understanding the world and its events from the heart without the prescriptive lens of right and wrong, a fear of change, of investing heart, mind and soul into someone or something lest it goes “wrong,” a fear of making mistakes, of having to start all over again because those mistakes showed you a new and different path, a fear of pitting yourself against the wisdom of the ages because you have a need, a passion to find out for yourself what is right for you.

I have seen age in twenty-something eyes and endless youthfulness in people over 70. So what are my anti-wrinkle treatments?

1.Find something you love and pursue it to the end. Ignore all nay-sayers; just follow your heart.

2. Begin each morning and end each day with exercising your mind; a half hour or twenty minutes of meditation on all that is right in your world and what you have to be thankful for.

3. Cultivate the long-term vision; see the layers of possibilities within each moment in time; with such long-term vision you will never be unsettled by an individual event because you are open to what it will bring in its wake.

4. Eat healthy foods and exercise; a strong body will empower your sense of self so that you can sustain the courage to do what is right for you.

5. Honor yourself and honor the world and all that lives, breathes, moves in it (including rocks, trees and skies).

6. Honor your desire which is a calling for change. Most people dread change and end up on the sidelines wishing wistfully for something better. They have not learned to honor their desire. Desire as Dr. Lee Pulos states in “The Biology of Empowerment,” ”is the purest of potential seeking manifestation or change.” Be open to change.

Last but not least, know in your heart that you will have no regrets because being young is knowing that you can start all over again.

How to treat dry skin and dandruff

For most of my life I've struggled with dry skin and dandruff. I've gone through every cream and shampoo available on the market without any acceptable results. I started to look to diet and more alternative practices for help. I've realized that it is possible to find solutions to dry skin and dandruff through diet, in combination with other health models, such as the Eastern practice of Ayurvedic medicine.

Ayurvedic is an ancient medical system from India which empasizes more natural paths to healing through diet, massage and holistic remedies. It classifies individuals according to a metabolic body type or dosha. Each dosha is characterized by a combination of the earth's elements like fire, water, wind, etc. When your doshas are out of balance, ill health can occur. The three doshas are Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.

Depending on what body type you are, you could be more prone to dry skin and dandruff. For example, a person with an imbalance in their Vata dosha is prone to dry skin. Various herbal rememdies and oils can help to restore balance to specific problems. With Vata, a regular body and scalp massage with sesame or sweet almond oil is recommended. For Pitta the oil would be coconut and for Kapha try olive oil. These can all be found in health food or grocery stores if you don't have a store that specializes in Ayurvedic remedies. You can also gently heat the oils in the microwave for a more intense moisturizer. Another great natural moisturizer is a mixture of egg yolks and honey. Thick and messy, but it works!

In addition to topical remedies, you can also work on your body from the inside out. Diet has a great impact on dandruff. Try these following dietary tips:

-Cut back on sugar and yeast. Foods that contain high levels of these ingredients can encourage fungus growth that causes dandruff. Unfortunately, that includes beer and wine!

-Pack your diet full of B-vitamin, Omega 3 fatty acids, and zinc rich foods like egg yolks, fish, whole grains, bananas, avocados, nuts, seeds, flaxseed, and spinach. These nutrients help maintain healthy hair and skin and zinc is actually found in many anti-dandruff shampoos.

-Use a tea tree oil shampoo on your hair. This is a very popular natural product from Australia, and has been used as an antiseptic, antibiotic and antifungal agent. This is the only anti-dandruff shampoo that has worked for me!

These are only a few tips that can help to restore your body to optimal health. Ayuvedic medicine is as vast as the Western model requiring years of study and knowlege. I hope to have simply provided an introduction to a wide range of help available.

Skin Damage Control for Neck and Chest

By Christine Fellingham

Telltale signs: You're likely to see (in order of appearance): dry texture, uneven pigmentation, sun spots (including precancerous lesions), broken blood vessels, crepiness, creases and banding in the neck. "The skin on your neck and chest is often unprotected in the sun. The skin is very thin and has few sebaceous oil glands and, consequently, little natural moisture, so signs of aging tend to appear," says dermatologist David E. Bank, MD, of Mount Kisco, New York.

At-Home Solutions
Even out pigment: This area is sensitive; overtreatment can leave hypopigmented, or light spots and scars. Avoid hydroquinone creams, but try face or body creams with alpha-hydroxy acid (such as Vaseline Intensive Care Lotion, Healthy Body Complexion) or vitamin C (such as Neutrogena Visibly Even Exfoliating Body Wash).

Protect, protect, protect: Apply sunscreen daily, making sure to cover the sides of your neck. Sun exposure is the cause of poikiloderma, a reddish/brownish discoloration from the bottom of the ears down the sides of the neck. "Most women mistake it for a rash, but it's a mixture of broken blood vessels and pigment caused by sun damage that's fairly common," says Bank. Sunscreens with zinc oxide or nanotitanium dioxide (such as DDF Matte Finish Photo Age Protection SPF 30 or Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry Touch SPF 45) offer complete protection with the sheerest finish.

A dermatologist can... Prescribe a lightening cocktail: Tri-Luma Cream (a combo of retin-A, hydroquinone, and an anti-inflammatory; $90/tube) and Kinerase Lotion ($60/ tube) both work to lighten discolorations without irritation.

Balance out mottling: If you've got severe "pebbling" discoloration that makes skin appear rough, there's a breakthrough: Photodynamic therapy, used to treat skin cancer, can also zap hundreds of spots (including precancerous lesions) in three to five sessions. "The doctor applies a photosensitizing solution and passes over it an intense pulsed-light or pulsed-dye laser which selectively eliminates the damaged cells," says Goldman. (Cost: About $700 a session.)

Smooth neck banding: The wrinkling and banding that were once treatable only with surgery can be successfully reversed by Botox. "Whether you have vertical bands or horizontal 'necklace' bands, Botox will smooth them out by relaxing the bunching of the platysma muscle that runs across the neck and chest," says David Bank.

Erase wrinkles: The filler Restylane is the treatment of choice if you have deep creases or wrinkles in your decolletage area. Or, consider the LED light treatment called Gentle Waves, recently approved by the FDA for firming skin. The light stimulates the skin to increase collagen and elastic tissue. The catch: It doesn't have a long track record; tends to take half a dozen treatments to work (at about $100 per session) and results vary.

Find almonds benefit for your skin

Many people are aware of the nutrient value of almonds. Health food stores and even some grocery stores now carry almond milk as a substitute for dairy and its use is becoming more common in skin care lotions and cleansers. However, in addition to the beneficial almond-derived ingredients, most of these commercial products also contain harsh and harmful chemicals. An easy solution to this problem is to make your own almond products at home and add them to your basic dry skin care routine.

What are the benefits of almonds? In addition to being an excellent source of protein, calcium, copper, phosphorus, iron, vitamin B1, niacin and other B vitamins, they have a high fat content that replenishes the skin's natural oils. Like olive oil, the fat is "good fat" - unsaturated oils very high in linolenic acid that is especially beneficial for dry skin care. In addition to drinking almond milk for overall health, almonds can be included in many homemade skin care products but they are most useful as cleansers. Try the following recipes.

Gently heat a few tablespoons of almond oil until it is warm. Add calendula flowers, about half the amount of almond oil, and leave it on the heat without letting it boil. After about 30 minutes, let it cool down and strain out the flowers. Throw in a few drops of flower water - orange, violet or rose water are great. Try each of them and choose your favorite scent. Use this oil instead of your regular cleanser.

For a deeper cleaning you need to substitute marigold for the calendula and add grape seed and lemon oils. Marigold is a good cleanser, astringent and toner and also has healing properties. Grape seed oil is a very potent antioxidant - great for dry skin care and smoothing out little lines and wrinkles. Lemon tones and lightens the skin and restores the natural pH. Heat about 2 tablespoons of grape seed oil then whisk in 3 tablespoons of marigold infusion. Add about five ounces of almond milk and 5 drops of lemon then allow to cool. Used morning and night, this solution will last for a good week - just shake it before each use.

After cleansing, always apply a shielding lotion. If you're taking the time to make your own dry skin care products, you'll want to do everything you can to make the benefits last as long as possible. A good shielding lotion locks in the skin's natural moisture and forms a protective layer on the surface of the skin to keep out the harsh chemicals and pollutants in the environment. Dry skin care using the combination of cleansing with almond oil products and protecting with the shielding lotion will give you the supple, healthy skin you've always wanted.

An aromatherapy massage can be a great way to relax, relieve sore muscles, achieve a better night’s sleep or share sexual pleasure with a trusted partner. By following these aromatherapy massage tips and guidelines you can be sure to safely enjoy your next aromatherapy massage.

An aromatherapy massage is a great way to relieve stress and show someone how much you care about them. In order to ensure an aromatherapy massage provides physical and emotional benefits without causing potential injury; however, it is important to follow safety guidelines.

First, always keep in mind that the oils used in aromatherapy are flammable, so use care when using near open flame.

Individuals who are pregnant or who have stomach problems should not have their abdominal areas massaged. In addition, individuals who have or may have blood clots are not good candidates for an aromatherapy massage. Avoid trying to crack any bones or perform any adjustments. Only qualified professionals should attempt this.

Find the best Acne Cleanser for you

Choosing The Right Acne Cleanser by Morgan Hamilton

You see acne cleanser ads every day and all of them do promise a kind of miracle cure, though very few actually do cure acne. I've been leading a war against acne for years, but even having reduced the fast food to once per day, all the cleansers I've used so far either do nothing or do so little good that it makes no difference at the end. And what is more, they not only curing it but even making it worse sometimes, drying the skin more than the necessary. And then I start from the beginning with the greasy meals that are supposed to compensate for the dehydrated skin and I do not think I can continue with that any longer.

Looking for a cure for acne you have to know that still no matter how advanced science and technology are, there is no effective cure for acne. Yes you can believe me because my face in the moment has more craters on it than the moon itself. Of course some cleansers are not as bad as others, however they are so few and hard to find. And what is more is that even if you decide to go for the most expensive one it is still no good at all. So why then pay a fortune for it, if it still does what the rest of them do - nothing. In my opinion there is nothing as stupid as that, don't you have anything better to spend your money for?

To be honest I have generally tried all known to mankind types of acne cleansers, starting from the simplest, basic ones all the way through to the most technologically advanced and specially formulated ones. And of all those cleansers the one that is still my favorite cleanser today is the Wych-hazel. This all natural astringent has effects very similar to the ones of the rubbing spirit, but without being so rough to the skin. Although it never actually cured my acne, it never made my skin go dry and peel off as lots of others did, and it actually did improve the condition of my skin and beauty.

Apart from the cleanser itself, it is very important to use mild soap, especially if it is possible to get special acne cleanser soap. It is so important because acne itself is a type of dermal irritation normal soap does irritate the skin every time you use it, so it can always make it worse than you have ever imagined. If you do have acne problems don't just go for the most advertised cleanser, go for the natural treatment, it has proved to be better.

Skin care products - What is the Big Deal with Salicylic Acid?

It seems like there’s a new miracle cure every day in the cosmetic industry. There are always people willing to spend money on anything that promises to make them look younger and feel better about themselves. The current quick fix it salicylic acid. What exactly is it, and what does it do?

Salicylic acid is an organic acid found in tree bark or certain trees. Native American Indians discovered that chewing the tree bark alleviated headaches and other inflammatory pain. Today, that form of salicylic acid is used to make aspirin.

Skincare products commonly use salicylic acid for its variety of benefits. It fights aging by promoting rapid exfoliation of surface skin cells, exposing an under-layer of fresh new ones. The exfoliation process helps to minimize the appearance wrinkles and fades brown age spots. It’s important to use adequate sunscreen, especially after using an exfoliating product. The newly exposed cells are more susceptible to the suns damaging rays.

Because of its natural anti inflammatory properties, salicylic acid is commonly found in products geared toward those with sensitive skin or conditions like Rosacea. Research even suggests that in addition to its cosmetic benefits, the copper found in some salicylic acid may even have cancer fighting properties.

Most over the counter products contain only one or two percent salicylic acid, which is strong enough to be effective, but gentle enough to be used on a daily basis. A doctor might prescribe a product with a stronger dose, usually four to 14 percent, for short term treatment of a specific problem. Higher percentages, about 20 percent, can be used as dermal peels.

Salicylic acid is great for oily and acne prone skin. Oil control and loosening of blemish-causing blackheads are just another bonus of the exfoliation process. After removing all debris, salicylic penetrates the newly opened pore and kills the bacteria inside. Its anti inflammatory properties help reduce redness and swelling, making the blemish less conspicuous while it heals.

Unfortunately, salicylic acid isn’t for everybody. Used in low concentrations, it is fine for people with sensitive skin, but those who are allergic to it should consider a product with glycolic acid or lactic acid as an alternative. It’s worth noting, that people who are allergic to fruit are possibly allergic to salicylic acid as well.

The effects of salicylic acid have not been studied on pregnant women, but studies have shown that it causes birth defects in animals when consumed orally in doses much stronger than the maximum recommended dose for topical use in humans.

Other medical conditions may be exacerbated by the use of salicylic acid, especially blood vessel disease. Diabetics need to be aware that it can cause ulcerations of the skin, particularly on the hands and feet. People who have recently used Accutane for acne treatment could experience a chemical burn-like reaction.

Tips Choose Normal Lotion For Your Skin and Body

Years ago, I found out how incredible easy it is to make lotion. It is so inexpensive and organic that I wondered why anyone would even consider spending a dime on the chemical rich lotions on the market.

Besides I had an added incentive, I have eczema, so I am extremely sensitive to what I put on my skin. Making my own lotion was a great alternative for me.

To begin, for a lotion base all you need is water, oil and an emulsifier. An emulsifier is simply an ingredient that blends the water and oil together. Here is the base that I begin with to make my lotion:

½ cup distilled water ½ cup oil (I usually use olive, almond, macadamia nut, or grape seed) 1 TBS liquid lecithin

You can experiment from here by adding essential oils, combining other oils; you can steep beneficial herbs into your water before you add your oil, etc?

Here is a nice winter lotion to get you started:

½ cup distilled water ½ cup olive oil 1 TBS lecithin 6-8 drops of geranium oil 2-4 drops Myrrh oil 400 IU Vitamin E oil (1-2 open capsules)

Geranium oil is good for supporting balance and rejuvenating dry skin conditions and for wrinkled and matured skin. Myrrh is a gentle oil that is effective in replenishing moisture.

Vitamin E oil is an excellent antioxidant and helps to protect the skin as well as a nice preservative.

Blend all ingredients in the blender either on whip or cream. You will have a nice creamy firm lotion. Add more water to make a lighter lotion. Store in the refrigerator in hot climates or store in a cool place. Shake well before use.

Enjoy your lotion. Hopefully this little recipe will inspire you to become creative.

Get benefit from Sauna for your Skin Care

At times I suffer from dry skin. I get red patches above my nose between my eyes which get dry and itchy. This can also affect my cheeks. The one thing that clears this up for me is a sauna session. After coming out of the sauna my skin is really red, however shortly after it looks fine and my little red dry patches disappear.

An infrared sauna uses infrared light which is different to a traditional sauna. The traditional sauna is electric, wood or gas-fired. The traditional sauna gets extremely hot and heats the air whereas the infrared light from an infrared sauna penetrates through the body heating you and not necessarily your surroundings. This helps to break up fatty deposits and eliminate toxins. The funny thing is that you can't see the light, but it is penetrating the skin.

Bathing in a hot sauna relaxes the muscles, reduces cellulite and smoothes the skin. Some of the ways to get rid of toxins through the skin include sauna and skin brushing just to name a few. With a sauna the skin is cleansed from the inside out.

If you are reasonably healthy, you can bathe in a sauna as often as you like without worrying about health effects. Many of the health benefits are clinically proven. The sauna is definitely a great tool to work with for skin rejuvenation. The far infrared sauna is like a skin treatment spa. This helps to soften your skin and the heat can help remove tension in your muscles. This type of sauna is great for improving blood circulation to the skin, which is vital for beautiful, youthful, glowing skin.

Hatha yoga

Hatha yoga is more commonly known as simply 'yoga'. It's a system of exercise originating from India. There are many branches of hatha yoga - you may have heard of Iyengar yoga, Ashtanga yoga, Kriya yoga, Vini yoga and Bikram yoga. They all involve postures or 'asanas'. Some asanas are gentle stretching exercises which can improve flexibility, and others help to develop and improve strength and balance.

Hatha yoga was born in traditional Hindu spiritual practice, so it's no surprise that it may also involve meditation and chanting, as well as philosophical and religious considerations. For those who purely wish to use it as a form of physical exercise, there are many completely secular versions available!

Why Is Hatha Yoga Such A Good Form Of Exercise

The first benefit is that it's a fitness routine that can be used by people of all ages and levels of fitness. It can get you into shape and keep you that way if used regularly. Yoga differs from other forms of exercise in that it involves motions that don't cause strain on the body. When performed correctly, the asanas have no negative effects on the body or mind.

It isn't an aerobic exercise but it uses almost every muscle. It can help to develop and improve balance, coordination and a feeling of being centered. The limbs are used like free weights and the body's center of gravity is moved to create resistance. Over time, the limbs become stronger and the focus then shifts to endurance as the asanas are held for increasing periods of time.

The aim is quality of movement rather than quantity. Regular practice of hatha yoga can bring peace and happiness to the mind and improved health and relaxation to the body.

How Hatha Yoga Can Help At Any Age

Yoga is great fun for children and teenagers and it's easy for them to do, as they are already flexible. Yoga can help them retain that flexibility. It can also help to develop their self-discipline. Practicing asanas is good for developing coordination and can help to improve concentration – which many children and teens find difficult.

Yoga is the ideal exercise during pregnancy. Asanas can improve backache and help to lift depression. Many women who practice yoga have said that it helped to make their labor easier and shorter. Be careful to only do asanas that have been approved for pregnant women. The meditation side of yoga is also calming and centering during pregnancy.

Older people use yoga to improve and/or maintain flexibility, correct poor posture, strengthen the spine, and ease back pain. It can also improve digestion and elimination, facilitate circulation, improve breathing disorders, and lift mood.

Yoga Can Help You To Cope

Many of the problems suffered in modern life may be eased by following a regular yoga routine.

Asanas can release the tense muscles caused by hours of sitting at a desk. Breathing deeply can improve vitality by increasing the amount of oxygen that reaches the brain. Meditation can enhance the power of concentration and calm the mind. Yoga teaches full relaxation and encourages good sleep. It also helps digestion and improves circulation.

Used regularly, it can improve physical and mental health and is also known to enhance creativity. Give it a try!

Find out what classes are available in your area - a properly qualified instructor can ensure that you are doing the asanas correctly and safely. If you'd rather try it at home, get a DVD (again, with a qualified instructor). There are lots to choose from!
